We had only been in the sauna business a few months, working out of our converted garage that doubled as both office and warehouse when a man called very worried about his wife. She had been diagnosed with severe fibromyalgia, an extremely debilitating disease. She was racked with pain throughout her body most of the time and could only walk with great effort. She hardly slept at night and said that she could feel pain in every hair follicle on her head. Once a robust women, she loved her work in the publishing industry as well as gardening and cooking. Now she could only work a few hours per week by phone from a chair in her house.
They had tried the rounds of doctors and practitioners, without much help, and were exhausted physically, emotionally and financially. He felt that the type of deep heat our far infrared saunas provided might just do the trick and help the women that he dearly loved.
We were not sure if we could help as we had no direct experience with fibromyalgia and little more with far infrared. We had leveraged everything ourselves to start our business while attending Chiropractic College and we were stretched to the limit. We had a quick conference to decide what course to take. To do nothing would be unthinkable, but we couldn't offer false hope in order to get a sale either. We were clear that we were in the business to help people, not take advantage of them. We offered to let them use a new sauna for two months that we would deliver and set up at no charge. We made it clear that they were under no obligation whatsoever at anytime, we just hoped it would help and if not, we would pick up the far infrared sauna.
After just two weeks he called back, overjoyed. His wife was sleeping better now, sometimes through the whole night. She had much less pain and her spirits had also improved. She now had hope! They bought the sauna; she went into almost total remission except for a few flare-ups now and then. The sauna was her sanctuary of health. She was able to return to work and hobbies full time.
She became the first of many to call us with the same condition. We are convinced, beyond a doubt, of the efficacy of the far infrared sauna. We are also convinced of the necessity of putting people before profits.
